They began in England, crossing the Atlantic to the New World, where settlers landed near Boston before eventually making their way to Springfield, Massachusetts.
Over the generations that followed, their descendants carried the family southwest into New Haven, Connecticut, then further into the expanding frontier regions of Natchez, Mississippi and Nacogdoches, Texas. By the 19th century, branches of the family had extended into the Potomac region and Georgia, contributing to the growing infrastructure of a young nation.
Their story is not one of extraordinary heroes, but of men and women whose choices, sacrifices and perseverance through life's greatest challenges revealed their inner strength and tenacity.
More than anything, this story is a reminder that life rarely follows the path we imagine. The true measure of their character was not found in wealth or recognition, but in the values they carried within themselves—faith, perseverance, compassion and the grit and resolve to keep searching for a way to push forward, even when the outcome was unknown.

My Journey
During the writing of this book, their perseverance became deeply personal to me.
Growing up with dyslexia made school frustrating and, at times, humiliating. Even into adulthood, reading and writing rarely came easily. I would often stumble over words, and they refused to keep pace with my thoughts as I spoke. I was perplexed as to why words didn’t come out the way I intended. That question wasn’t answered until much later in life, when I finally understood the enigma.
But much like the lives within these pages, I learned that hardship does not prevent a person from moving forward.
If this book reaches someone who has ever felt misunderstood, overlooked, or discouraged, know this: dyslexia does not mean you are incapable. It means you process the world differently—and different does not mean less. Sometimes it simply means finding another path.
